Swiffer pads are an expensive necessity in my home! While I make it a point to clean and mop my kitchen floors twice weekly, I like to use my Swiffer for a quick cleaning pick-me-up around my kitchen. But, I’ve got to admit that I’m a little tired of spending the money on them. Instead of forking over the dough, I decided I’d make my own instead.
You’ll need cloth, and here are a few things I like to use:
-Microfiber cloth
-Old socks
-Bar Mop towels
-Old clothes
The DIY project is pretty simple! All you need to do is cut your extra fabric to fit around the bottom of the Swiffer mop. Tuck the fabric into the little “tufts” on the top of your mop. If desired, you can attach the fabric to your mop with a strip of velcro.
If using a sock, some of them will slide over the top of the mat like they do your foot!

Now that you have a pretty much endless supply of reusable Swiffer mop pads, it’s time to clean them! Keeping them clean will ensure that they do their job, after all.
I throw my dirty mop pads in the wash under a normal cycle (with the extra rinse cycle on). Never use fabric softener, as it could create a buildup on your woven pads that makes it hard to get them clean. Use vinegar instead, because it is a natural disinfectant that will keep your mop pads mildew-free.
