I’m not exactly an advocate for vacation workouts, but I understand that sometimes it’s relaxing to hit the gym and break a sweat on vacation. Something about breaking a sweat on the beach cleanses the soul, I think! If you’re itching to workout on your next beach vacation, try one of these 10 workout moves designed to do on vacation!
Sand Sprints
Warm up by running up and down the beach. When ready, draw a literal line in the sand that you plan to run to. Take a ten second rest in between sprints! Psst…I like to run on the beach barefoot, but it can be hard on feet that aren’t used to it!
Toe Taps on Beach Ball
We’re not done with cardio just yet! Break out your beach ball and do a series of “toe taps.” I did this all the time when I played soccer, and it was a great leg workout! The sand makes it more difficult, and you’ll definitely feel the burn!
Water Running
Don’t hate me…but we aren’t quite done running! Head to the shallow water for a quick jog in the water. The sand and water create a great resistance. You won’t get a workout like this anywhere else! And hey, you’ll definitely stay cool!
Forward Lunge and Twist
Holding your beach ball, do a series of lunges with the added side twist. Bend your knee to a 90 degree angle, and drop your back foot to the sand. Hold, and twist to the side.
Bulgarian Split Lunge- On A Ball
Put that beach ball in the sand! Lunge forward like you did in the last exercise, but place your back foot on top of the beach ball. Squat, and get ready to feel that booty work! This one is a balance challenge. Including weights is up to you!
Squats!
Just like you would at the gym, head to the beach for your basic air squats! This move tones your butt muscles in no time, and the sand provides a bit of an extra challenge. Let’s do 20!
**Fill a sandbag for added weight.
Crunches
Because an ab workout is good at any time and any place. Drop to the sand and give me twenty! Kidding..but really, the sand uneven and great for core strength. Lay back on the ball if desired.
Tricep Dip (With Ball)
Laying on your back, put your feet up on your beach ball. Extend your arms behind you, hands forward, and dip your arms. You’ll feel the burn!
Swimming
There’s a reason Michael Phelps eats as much as he does, swimming is one of the best workouts ever! Head to the water for this workout, and don’t forget to give your hair some moisturizing love…
Beach Yoga
After a long workout (or just as a restorative workout in itself) try meditative yoga on the beach! Downward dog feels great after hard cardio.
