I’ve only been to Africa once, years ago but I am dying to go back. My family and I visited the stunning Seychelles islands, and though it was ten years ago, we still cannot stop talking about the experience. Located just off the coast of East Africa, in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles is a magical place with the clearest blue waters and gorgeous foliage. If you’re looking for a unique, gorgeous beach destination, I highly recommend Seychelles.
Seychelles
Snorkeling
Because the Seychelles islands are made up of coral reefs, this is one of the best places in the entire world to go snorkeling. You can hire a group to take you out to their favorite destinations, or you can escort yourself after renting gear at a nearby shop or hotel. If you are trying to see beautiful sea turtles, I recommend visiting Silhouette Island and Machabee.
Get Away From It All
If you want to go back in time and truly get away from it all, visit the island of La Digue. This island has almost no motorized vehicles on its premises, so people mostly get around by bike or foot. Additionally, there aren’t many paved roads either, so you’ll feel like you’re out somewhere rural. However, this area of the world has one of the most gorgeous, pristine beaches. I guess its a good thing that cars aren’t allowed here!
Eat Like A Local
Of course, if you’re in the area, you absolutely must eat like a local. We ate at many Mom and Pop shops during our stay and were pleased with the delicacies that were served. Local affair is usually fish curry, rice, and lamb stew. Visit the restaurant Breeze on the island of Grand Anse and Coco Rouge in Baie St. Anne. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Don’t Forget To Relax
Of course, what is a vacation without a little relaxation? If lounging around on the beach taking it all in sounds like a great trip to you, I recommend visiting Praslin Island. It has miles and miles of gorgeous beaches as well as a general “laid back” vibe that is just unbeatable. Additionally, this location is pretty calm, so it’s likely that you might have an entire beach to yourself.
Drink Some Rum
I’m sure that Captian Jack Sparrow would be incredibly fond of this idea! Seychelles has it’s own rum distillery and visitors can take tours of the facility. Not only is the rum offered at the tasting simply wonderful, but the restaurant on the premises is a great place to sober up a little before heading back to your hotel.
