Loading the dishwasher is one of my LEAST favorite chores. I know I’m not the only one! How many of you out there actively avoid loading the dishwasher? There’s always just something much better to be doing! For all the years that all of you have been doing dishes, did you know that there is actually a correct way to load the dishwasher? Here is a complete list of dishwasher dos and don’ts!
Do you face your plates in the same direction? It’s time to stop doing that! Put your plates on the bottom rack, all facing inwards towards the scrub arms. They’ll be way more clean!
Did you know that many utility companies change their rates during peak use hours? I definitely didn’t! Save some serious dinero on your utility bill by only running your dishwasher at night. It’s outside of peak hours, and you’ll be astounded at the savings!
It might be tempting! But never unload your dishwasher top rack first! As many of us know, pools of water can collect in cups and bowls, spilling water on the freshly dried dishes below. Keep things in top shape by unloading your dishwasher from bottom to top racks.
If you have a new dishwasher, there really isn’t a need to rinse your plates prior to placing in the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is run within 24 hours, that is. Instead of wasting water rinsing your dishes, scrape them off into the trash. Many new models are built to be tough on food buildup!
It might seem like a time waster now, but it isn’t when it comes time to unload dishes! Place your forks, knives, and spoons together in the utensil rack. That way, when it comes time to unload, you can grab handfuls at a time and place them in the utensil slot that they belong!
As with anything, start your dishwasher chore journey by loading the BIG dishes first. Naturally, the large pieces take up the most room, and it’s often more efficient if you tuck the smaller items in around the larger ones.
