Flying isn’t my most favorite activity. It’s exhausting. People on airplanes can be disgusting, and then you add my kids into the mix and it just seems like a recipe for disaster. However, just because I hate flying doesn’t mean I won’t travel! Try these flying tips and tricks to do the night before your big flight. That way, it’s all smooth sailing (er…flying) when it’s time to head to the airport.
Tips To Make Your Flight Smooth
1. Drink Plenty Of Water
Something about flying on an airplane just makes you dehydrated. I’m not sure if it’s the change in elevation, or what. I just know that it happens. The night before you leave (and really all day long) make sure you are staying hydrated with plenty of water. Avoid alcohol consumption, too, though it can be tempting to indulge. This will only make you feel worse on a flight.
2. Pack Your Bags
If you haven’t already done so at some point during the week prior…I like to start packing by gathering all of my clothing together, followed my hygiene items. Though it might be hard to pack up everything right now, I like to get as close as I can the night before. Next, I pack my carry on full of any books or snacks that I may want. Now is a good time to remove anything from your bag that cannot be carried onto the plane. Stash your electronics, their chords, and any medications in before you leave the next day.
3. Take A Final Shower
Really. Just do it. You might be without some of your favorite shower products for a few days to a few weeks, so really indulge! Exfoliate your skin and put on plenty of moisturizers, as well. As I said previously, flying just wrecks your skin! Plus, that’s one less thing you have to do in the morning if you need to get out of the door in a hurry.
4. Set Out Your Passport/Itinerary
Because this is a pain to forget. My mother has done it several times. While it’s easy to print out another itinerary at the airport, it isn’t easy to get a new passport or drivers license. Put both your passport, wallet, itinerary and whatever else you need in your purse or carry on now. You’ll be glad you did!
5. Charge Your Devices
Before you head off to sleep, make sure your laptop, iPad, noise-canceling headphones, and whatever other electronics you need to get through your flight are charged and ready to go. You can always charge them at the airport (and in many cases, on the airplane) if need be.
