Though I don’t call New England home, it is one of my very favorite areas of the country in the fall months, simply because of all the fall foliage. This area of the country is even ranked as one of the most beautiful in the world when it comes to fall colors. Not only that, but the small-town charm found throughout New England is sure to only add to the appeal. Here are the best destinations in New England if you want to catch some beautiful fall leaves.
Bethel, Maine
This tiny mountain village in Maine is the perfect place to go if you like quaint! Not only is the small town itself a ton of fun, but it is beautiful in the fall. Check out the hiking trails surrounding the town, the best way to see the leaves in this region is on foot.
Woodstock, Vermont
This small town is one of Vermont’s most historic, and it’s absolutely wonderful. Head to Woodstock for incredible shopping and dining, all while being surrounded with incredible fall foliage. And while you’re here, head to the local farm to taste some classic Vermont cheese.
Route 7 In Connecticut
To see the leaves in this region, your best bet is to get in your car and go for a drive! One of my favorite drives in the area is down Route 7 in Connecticut. My husband and I often begin our drive in Norwalk before detouring through Kent Falls and then down to Woodbury. Your eyes will be glued to the colors outside the entire time!
The Shires, Vermont
“The Shires” is the name of a region of historical shire towns in the southwest corner of Vermont. Start in Bennington and then continue down Historic Route 7A to see several other charming towns. Plan your drive in October to see some beautiful fall foliage while you’re out.
Route 6A, Massachusetts
This rural route is one of the most beautiful in the state if you are looking for fall foliage. Start after passing over the Sagamore Bridge. You can even head to the historic town of Sandwich if you have time.
