Growing up, my Mom spent most of her free time scrapbooking, and in turn, I spent a lot of my free time scrapbooking as well! I took a few years off from my hobby when my family moved. It was a stressful time, and I just couldn’t seem to get back into it!
Though, times have settled down and I have thrown myself back into making memories into art. However, a quick look back at some of my previous creations (these were DECADES old..and looking worse for the wear!) has me wondering; is it possible to keep the pages of my scrapbooks from yellowing, or getting discolored?
The answer is yes: ABSOLUTELY. Scroll to find out how!

To keep scrapbook papers from yellowing, it’s best to choose an acid-free variety of paper. Paper that is not acid free can become brittle, crack, and even harm your favorite photographs. Stay away from wallpaper and wrapping paper as you will find that they don’t hold up exactly well.
Acid free options include: office or printer paper (even with ink on it!) Mullberry paper, or handmade papers are perfectly okay to use. Mullberry paper is that kind that creates a fuzzy edge when torn. It’s one of my favorite papers to use because it’s soft, pliable, and it looks great.
It should be mentioned that regular printer ink, while safe for your scrapbook, can fade over time. Print things out with a laser toner so your scripts don’t vanish off anywhere!
Additionally, if you are hoping to save a clipped newspaper article you can do so by placing them each in their own archival plastic sleeve. The newspapers should be kept separate from everything else, especially photographs! By placing each of them in their own sleeve, they will last much longer! Purchase some here.
