It’s a serious bummer when you or one of your kids is sick. It’s an even bigger bummer when you simply cannot figure out a way to make yourself and your kids feel better. The next time you’re dying for some sickness relief, these tips will come in handy!
1.If you kiddo can’t stand the taste of cough syrup, dip a Dum-Dum Lolipop in the medicine instead. The yucky medicine taste will be replaced with tons of sugary sweetness. This isn’t quite an all natural remedy, but it sure does help in a rotten situation.
2.Vicks Vapo Rub is a godsend. Really! It was always my Mom’s go-to. When struggling with a bad cough, slather Vicks Vapo Rub on the bottoms of your feet before bed. Wear socks and wait for it to work it’s magic! Again not a natural remedy, but one your lungs will thank you for.
Alternatively, inhaling Eucalyptus and Thyme oils in the shower is said to help respiratory distress.
3. Having two tissue boxes spread out around the house will actually help spread germs. Keep the tissues in one designated area, and rubber band them together to help control the spread of germs. Rubber banded tissues are strictly for Sickies!
4.Ginger is known for it’s ability to help the body fight off disease. Mix with honey or boil in water for a quick oral remedy. It definitely tastes better with honey, though!
5. Pour hydrogen peroxide inside of your ears to help with lingering (or beginning) illness. Only a bit is needed, and it may irritate sensitive skin. Test before use!
6.It sounds gross, and maybe a little smelly, but it really does work! Before going to bed, rub olive (or coconut) oil on the feet. Wrap plastic wrap around the feet to secure the garlic, and wear socks overnight. Research shows that garlic helps to pull toxins and other junk from the body, all naturally!
7.Dry and raspy coughs can feel relief with the help of a humidifier. Place one next to your bed and wake up with hydrated lungs AND hydrated skin.
**Humidifiers are great for a whole other host of reasons. If you don’t have one already, purchase one (my favorite is here) and sleep with it nightly!
8.Gargling salt water is proven to help remove bacteria and germs from the mouth and throat. Gurgle twice daily for sore throat relief.
9.Raw honey helps to coat and soothe an irritated throat. Additionally, if purchased locally, can help lessen the effects of season allergies. The flavor is unique, and I would never not buy it!
10. Chicken noodle soup really IS good for the soul. Especially a sick soul! Chicken Noodle Soup is actually proven to help fight illness. Why? It’s jam packed with nutrients and carbs that actually help keep energy levels up
