10 Boredom-Busting Games for Rainy Summer Days

June 1, 2017 by Brittney Jacobson Leave a Comment

I can’t be the only one who absolutely DREADS a Summer thunderstorm. Not because I don’t enjoy some cloudy weather, but because it’s impossible to entertain kids indoors sometimes! Summer is challenging, but don’t let the weather contribute to your stress, here are my favorite boredom-busting games for rainy summer days. Don’t worry, you’ll be at the beach again in no time at all!

#1 Tape Lines On Your Floor

Tape lines on your floor, and give your kids a challenge! For example, tape lines apart and tell your kids to jump as far as they can! Then, have them try it with a running start. The winner gets a popsicle!

#2 Tape a Track

Additionally, use brightly colored masking tape or even some of your least-favorite Washi tape patterns to create a racetrack for toy cars! See how here.

#3 Indoor Hopscotch

Using tape, create an indoor hopscotch mat for your kids. Provide rocks or other items that they can throw to “skip” certain tiles.

#4 Use Sticky Notes

Using sticky notes, create a “target” on the back of the door. Write a random number on each sticky note, and if the note is hit, you receive the designated number. Use bean bags, or balled up socks to hit the notes! Time for target practice!

#5 The Penguin Waddle

Have your kids put a blown up balloon in between their legs. The objective is to walk the length of the room without dropping the balloon. Do you think you can do it?

#6 Balloon Races

Additionally, you can use the same balloons from the previous idea to play this game. Have your kids put their balloons on the ground and challenge them to race by “blowing” the balloon across the room. Such fun!

#7 “Sticky Spider Web”

Create a “spider web” in your door frame using double-sided masking tape. Give your kids items to throw at the spider web. The goal is to get them to stick!

#8 Crab Walk

This was one of my least favorite activities in P.E. the crab walk is exhausting! It’s time to inflict that same discomfort on your kiddos! Teach them to crab walk, and laugh as they race each other across the room!

#9 Indoor Obstacle Course

You deserve major “Mom points” if you can pull this one off! Create an obstacle course around your house, and challenge your kids to complete it. Toilet paper makes for a great temporary “obstacle” and so does string!

#10 Flashlight Scavenger Hunt

A regular scavenger hunt isn’t exciting enough for us! Give your kids flashlights, and send them off on a scavenger hunt. In the dark!
