13 Ideas to Help Your Coastal Kitchen Dreams Set Sail

October 18, 2016 by Brittney Jacobson Leave a Comment

For years I worked in the design industry and one of my favorite kitchen looks is coastal. Designing a coastal kitchen didn’t feel like work, it felt more like a day at the beach. That is what the coastal design is all about. Bringing that beach/coast feel into your home.

The coastal look incorporates material that are bright and cheery, yet inviting and relaxed. Sounds just like the beach, right? Colors range from all white, to a mix of greens, blues and or navy for a more nautical look. Metal accents play a big role in this look and can easily be added on drawer pulls, lighting or seating. Countertops can be as simple as butcher block or as formal as marble. There is no set rule that anchors you to a certain look. Just think about the beach colors you love, how rustic or formal you want your kitchen to be, and what seems to suit your lifestyle best.

Take a look at these 13 kitchens and see which style you love. Maybe it will be a combination of a few, or just one will have your name on it. You are the captain and the final decision is yours.

Great use of natural wood with painted cabinets. White walls make the blue pop.

Love, love, LOVE! Mixing green and blue works so well especially because the green is on a tongue and groove pony wall.

This looks like the kitchen of a captain. Navy blue is a wonderful color for a bold nautical feel.

I’m a big fan of open shelving for a few reasons. A coastal kitchen should be airy and the shelves accomplish this. Besides, why hide all your beautiful coastal dishes. Accent the dishes by adding glass bottles or colored mason jars. Shelves can also be accented by being a different color than the cabinets.

Planked wood walls and butcher block counters. So old school but very trendy.

Who doesn’t love this look? Open wood beams painted white. I love to wrap sections using rope and tying a large nautical knot.

Modern coastal kitchens aren’t for everyone, but for those who aren’t afraid to think outside the box, the possibilities are endless. I love the cutouts for drawer pulls. The remind me of the ocean waves.
