Best Beaches For Retirement

February 26, 2019 by Brittney Jacobson Leave a Comment

While I might be a few years away from retiring (unfortunately, I know) my parents are about to take the plunge into the great unknown of retirement. And in true fashion, they want to spend their retirement lounging on a beach in the tropics! Since that is a goal that I too can live with (I’ll only be visiting CONSTANTLY) I’ve made it my mission to help find them a beach they can relax on for the rest of their lives. Here are the destinations that have made our short list so far!

Fort Pierce, Florida

Though this beach is known for its stunning scenery and crystal clear waters, it’s also known for its low housing costs. On average, housing only costs $777 dollars a month in the area, making it possible for just about anyone to retire here comfortably. Plus, there’s a great surf break nearby, imagine if riding waves was all you had to do all day!

Gulf Shores, Alabama

The Gulf Shores has something for everyone.  Opportunities exist for just about any kind of outdoor recreation, terrific seafood, and great nightlife. Your grandkids will even be occupied when they come down to visit you. This is one of the pricier locations on the list, but with those kinds of amenities, it’ll be easy to call the Gulf Shores home.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

I’ve only been to Myrtle Beach once, and I was blown away at the sense of community that I felt there. With 20,000 full-residents the economy is booming.  Plus, you’ll love the warm temperatures all year long!

Freeport, Texas

Homes are a bit more expensive in this area of the country, but once you see the scenery, it’s easy to understand why. This relatively unknown community is one of the greatest places in the country to retire. You’ll feel right at home in this beachside town!

Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Located just east of Biloxi, Ocean Springs is developing quite the reputation as an art hub for the state. Though property taxes are high, the city makes up for it with plenty of fun things to do. If you decide to retire in this gorgeous location, definitely make it a point to participate in the yearly Mardi Gras festival. It’s so much fun!

Maui, Hawaii

Of course, a Hawaiian island is a perfect place to retire! And although you may not be able to buy a house immediately, you can rent for a few years until you become a permanent resident of the island. And honestly, you won’t even realize that you’re renting! There’s so much to do in Hawaii that you probably won’t spend a ton of time at home! This is the perfect place for retirement.
