My kiddos (and even myself!) love to dig along the beach looking for all kinds of seashells. Of course, we never take more than our fill! However, although I love the treasures the sea deposits on the beach, I would rather keep all of the sea bacteria out of my home decor accents! This post, I’m going to show you how I clean my seashells before using them as home decor accent pieces.
Here’s what you’ll need:
-Bowl of water
-seashells (of course!)
Step One: Depending on the size of your bucket, you will need to mix in one tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water (so one gallon equals one tablespoon of bleach and so forth…). Once your bleach is added, you can start scrubbing. Tip: you may want to do this project outdoors or in a well ventilated area. Bleach fumes can be rough!
Step Two: Place your seashells in the bleach/water mixture for a few hours.
Step Three: After a few hours has passed, use your toothbrush to get rid of any leftover dirt, sand, or grime.
Step Four: Wait until the shells are completely dry to begin a craft project or attaching craft glue of ANY sort. It’s always better to be safe rather than sorry when it comes to dry time.
Optional Step: If you desire, you can cover your seashells in clear acrylic or spray paint to keep them clean, white, and stain free for many years.
