No matter where you spend your vacation, the risk of getting pickpocketed is always high. It just seems like thieves have an eye for tourists! However, just because you’re traveling doesn’t mean that you’re destined to lose all of your expensive belongings. Here’s how you can avoid getting pickpocketed on your next vacation.

Travel Tips: How To Not Get Pickpocketed

Recognize That It Can Happen To Anyone…Anywhere
No matter who you are, what you do, or how much money you have in the bank, it’s important to realize that anyone can be pickpocketed. Though it’s frustrating when it does happen to you, recognizing this fact will help you get back to your fun vacation much faster. Additionally, though still a gorgeous place to visit, Paris is notoriously bad for pickpocketers. In fact, the city recently deployed 5,000 additional police officers to help protect tourists from thieves! But this isn’t the only area of the world affected. I myself have had cash stolen while on vacation in London!

Wear A Money Belt
Though these items are less than fashionable, a money belt can save you from being without a debit card or a driver’s license while traveling internationally. Though similar to a travel wallet, a money belt is a lot more secure than a travel wallet because it attaches around your waist by way of an elastic band. Attached to the band is a zippered pouch perfect from storing cards or cash. Just make sure that the belt is zipped up and secure at all times. I even know people who will tuck theirs under their clothing for an added sense of security. Though less secure, those who want something more fashionable than a money belt can purchase a travel wallet or cross-body satchel.

What To Do If You Get Pick Pocketed
If unfortunately, you do fall victim to a pick pocketer, you should follow the following steps to ensure that your identity (and your life savings) is protected.
-Cancel your bank cards immediately. This is one of those times where it’s acceptable to call on international data to make it happen.
-Go right to the police. Though it may put a wrench in the plans of your afternoon, the local police can help you with insurance.
– If your passport was stolen, immediately contact your embassy. They can issue you an emergency-only passport back to your home country.
– Stay calm! It is rough, but don’t let the theft ruin your vacation.
